Let's get to work fair 2022
Date - To be Determined
What is the Let's Get to Work Fair?
Let's Get to Work Fairs invite all outgoing High School Seniors in the county to attend a full day job fair, where they will have an opportunity to meet with over 100 local, regional and national employers. Many of these employers attending are looking to fill jobs immediately. Others are there to meet the next generation of workforce and share some perspective on picking a fulfilling career path. Overall, the event is designed by our community stakeholders to support our local Graduating Seniors in creating their own unique career pathways and futures.
What is the purpose of the event?
Upon receiving their diploma, our current students are graduating at an optimal time to be looking at employment opportunities. As we know, many businesses are trying to fill jobs immediately. Billings’ job market is strong, and these employers are excited to create relationships with the next generation workforce in such a local and interactive manner. For those who have College plans this fall, employers with great seasonal employment opportunities this summer will be on hand. If you are looking for volunteer opportunities, participants will get to meet some wonderful organizations who can point students in the right direction. Attendees will also have the opportunity to meet local University and Post-Secondary leaders and learn about the highly affordable and accessible continuing education options which exist in Montana and in the region.
School District #2 has made participation mandatory for their approximately 1,200 graduating seniors. The Catholic School System has been involved from the beginning and all area High Schools have been invited and understand how valuable this opportunity is for their students.
How does “The Let's Get to Work Fair” work?
Many community leaders will be on hand and excited to share resources related to apprenticeships, internships and other career readiness assets in our regional community. Whether the plan is to get straight to work, enroll in College this fall or get through graduation and see what’s next, "Let's Get to Work" participants will meet successful business leaders, employers and community members who will be there to help attendees get excited about this transition out of High School.
Interested businesses need to register at the below link for table space at the "Let's Get to Work Fair." The day is run very much in a "job fair" style where businesses will have a table to provide information to interested students. There will be high school seniors throughout the day from the various schools interacting and asking questions of our employers.
When is the "Let's Get to Work Fair?”
The "Let's Get to Work Fair” will be in March 24, 2020. Businesses are invited to set-up their table space the night before the event or the morning of. Doors will open to students at 8am and close at 3pm. This year's "Let's Get to Work Fair" will be held at Rimrock Mall in their new event space. What are some experiences from 2019 participants?
Student perspective: One high school senior has job shadowed twice with Community 7 since the Job Fair. She plans to head to college in Hawaii this fall, but prior to our event, didn’t know she could explore her career interests in Billings. Because of her job shadow experience, she feels more confident in her career pathway and is more aware of the opportunities that may exist for her in Billings.
Employer perspective: Sysco Montana interviewed 20 students following the Let’s Get to Work Job Fair and has hired 10 of them at $18.38/hour. These students have opportunities to begin a long term career supported by Sysco, or to work part-time through the summer for a very competitive wage.
Curriculum perspective: RiverStone Health has hired a PRN/CNA for their Hospice House. The student they hired is qualified specifically because of the curriculum offered at the Career Center and supported by the Career and Technical Education Department. Aligning curriculum with workforce demands works!
